Woodchip Supplies

Sourcing

All of our timber used in the production of the woodchip is sourced by RT Haulage. It largely consists of pulp wood; the bits of the forest the mills don’t want. It’s stacked in the yard in large rows ready for the chipper.

Chipped

The chipping is carried out by Rodney Noble chipping. He uses a Fendt 942 tractor and a Musmax chipper. This can chip about 50 tons per hour. He uses a G30 screen in the chipper which produces a very uniform size of chip.

Dried

Once the timber is chipped it is loaded into our drying shed. This is a covered shed that has a grain drying floor in it. Waste heat is piped from the AD Plant and is blown through a wind tunnel and up through the floor. A batch of fresh chip is dried down to about 25%MC in a week.

Stored

Once the chip is dried it is stored in one of our large woodchip sheds. We carry a large stock of chip and try to fill the sheds up in the summer time. This ensures that we have enough during peak demand in the winter time.

Delivered

We have serval options to deliver chip to customers. We have a blower trailer. This has a generator built into the chassis that is pto driven. It powers a large blower on the back of the trailer that can blow the chip upwards of 6 meters into above ground stores. We have a large tipper trailer for bulk deliveries to customers who load their own stores. We also have an ejector trailer. This pushes the load out the back of the trailer, usually onto a conveyor or an auger system that then transports the chip into the fuel stores. For large bulk deliveries we get RT Haulage to deliver with their walking floor trailer. Customers are also able to bring trailers to the site and collect the loads themselves.
